Dal fry

Ingredients

  • Toor dal1 cup
  • Water2-1/2 cups
  • Salt1 tsp
  • Turmeric1/4 tsp
  • Ghee3 tbs
  • Chopped tomatoes1 cup
  • Cumin seeds1/2 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds1/2 tsp
  • Bay Leaf2
  • tbs chopped Green Chilli1
  • tsp shredded Ginger2
  • Cilantro2 tbs
  • Red Pepper1/2 tsp
  • Salt1/2 tsp
  • Sugar1 tsp
  • Garam Masala1/4 tsp

Steps

Prepare

  1. 🥄Wash and soak toor dal in approx.
  2. 🔥3 cups of water, for at least one hours.

  1. 🔥Dal will be double in volume after soaking.
  2. 🧂Drain the water.

Cook

  1. 🧂Cook dal with 2-1/2 cups water and add salt, turmeric, on medium high heat, until soft in texture (approximately 30 mins) it should be like thick soup.
  2. 🍳In a frying pan, heat the ghee.

Steps

  1. 🍳Add cumin seeds, and mustard seeds.
  2. 🫇After the seeds crack, add bay leaves, green chili, ginger and chili powder.
  3. 🍽️Stir for a few seconds.

Cook

  1. 🫇Add tomatoes, salt and sugar stir and cook until tomatoes are tender and mushy.
  2. 🍽️Add cilantro and garam masala cook for about one minute.

Prepare

  1. 🍽️Pour the seasoning over dal mix it well and cook for another minute.

Serve

  1. 🌿Serve with Naan.
